Tongue-Tie Resources and Treatment in Korea
Understanding Tongue & Lip Ties
Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) occurs when an unusually thick or short band of tissue (lingual frenum) connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth, restricting mobility. Many babies also have lip ties, which prevent the upper lip from flanging correctly to create an effective seal during nursing.
Common Signs to Watch For:
Nursing Pain: Shallow latches causing compressed or misshapen nipples and parental pain.
Baby’s Behavior: Clicking sounds while nursing or an inability to lift the tongue when crying.
Medical Risks: Increased risk of mastitis and plugged ducts for the nursing parent, and potential supply decrease.

Specialized Providers in Korea
Early intervention is recommended to restore full mobility. Below are trusted providers specializing in revisions:
Provider | Method | Location | Notes |
Dr. Chung | Scissors | Can perform revisions immediately after birth. | |
Rosa Kim | Scissors | Midwife Services | Experienced in immediate postnatal revisions. |
Yoon ENT Clinic | Laser | Best for laser revisions; typically schedules for babies 4+ weeks old. |
Laser Revision: Laser acts as an anesthetic, requires no additional anesthesia, and takes only seconds. Babies are encouraged to nurse immediately following the procedure.
Post-Revision Care & Recovery
Optimal healing requires more than just the procedure itself.
Chiropractic Care: Recommended within 24 hours of revision to release tension in the jaw and shoulders caused by compensation.
Stretches & Massage: The revision site must be massaged several times daily for two weeks to prevent reattachment. View Stretching Instructions Here.
Supply Management: If your supply was affected by baby not emptying the breast, consider consulting a qualified lactation specialist. They may recommend using a hospital-grade pump (like the Spectra/Cimilre S2) after each feed and/or using an at-breast supplemental nursing system to stimulate supply.
